Industrial Resources, Inc. Design and Detail Engineering for New Metallurgical Coal Mining Project in Barbour County, West Virginia

July 19, 2019

Industrial Resources, Inc. Design and Detail Engineering Project for New Slope Conveyor, Breaker Station, Raw Coal Storage and Reclaim System, Preparation Plant, Clean Coal Storage and Reclaim System, Railroad Loadout and Refuse System in Barbour County, West Virginia.

Industrial Resources, Inc. is now working on developing the design and detail engineering for a metallurgical coal mining project in Barbour County, West Virginia; the project is called Century Mining, LLC – Longview Mine. According to the West Virginia Office of Miners’ Health, Safety and Training, Barbour County produced 2,862,957 tons of coal in 2017. This new project represents an opportunity for a significant increase in that production as well as providing hundreds of quality jobs to the area.

OVERVIEW OF CENTURY MINING, LLC – LONGVIEW MINE

Industrial Resources, Inc. began working on the Design and Detail Engineering for this project in 2015. The work consists of developing a Raw Coal System from the bottom of the coal mine slope up to the Raw Coal Storage Area and Raw Coal Reclaim System on the surface. This includes an R.O.M. screening and breaker station prior to the Raw Coal Storage System.

Two earth-moving contractors are currently developing the areas for the mine slope opening, and the access road from the county highway to the project site.

There is another contractor on-site developing the coal mine air shaft at another location; consisting of a 24-foot diameter hole from the surface to the coal seam 978 feet below the ground surface. Once the air shaft and slope are developed, the two will be tied together by developing underground entries from the air shaft to the slope bottom, providing proper ventilation underground.

The scope of work for this project, will consist of the following:

  • 72″ wide slope conveyor (3,792’ long) on a 15-degree slope to a drive / transfer tower on the surface area of the mine site.
  • Four 2,000 horsepower motors (total of 8,000 horsepower) to drive the slope conveyor and bring the R.O.M. coal from the underground coal seam to the surface.
  • 72” wide R.O.M. transfer conveyor (782’ long) discharges to the R.O.M. screening and breaker station.
  • 72” wide raw coal storage conveyor No. 1 (561’ long).
  • 72” wide raw coal storage conveyor No. 2 and No. 3 (both are 160’ long).
  • The above leading to the raw coal storage area with underground reclaim feeders. The storage area will stockpile approximately 250,000 tons of raw coal material. It will then be transferred from the feeders in the reclaim tunnel onto a reclaim conveyor. From there, it will transfer to the 48” wide plant feed conveyor (450’ long) into a state-of-the-art 1,600 raw tons per hour coal preparation plant.
  • Preparation Plant- State-of-the-art 1,600 raw coal tons per hour Preparation Plant to wash the raw coal and produce two products, metallurgical coking coal and middling product.
  • Clean Coal Conveyors:We are using two clean coal conveyors (both are 2,660’ long) to convey two clean coal products consisting of a middlings product and a metallurgical coking coal product to a Clean Coal Storage and Reclaim System.
  • Clean Coal Storage: Will stockpile approximately 200,000 tons of coking coal and 86,000 tons of middling product.
  • Reclaim System: From the reclaim feeders and conveyor tunnel system, the coal products will be loaded onto a 72” wide loadout conveyor and Unit Train rail cars through a 4,000 tons per hour batch loadout system.
  • Batch Train Loadout: 4,000 tons per hour batch loadout system with three stage sample system and then transported by railroad to the customers.
  • Coarse Refuse System: The refuse material coming out of the preparation plant will be conveyed to a 400-ton capacity plant refuse bin then transported to the refuse dump area by large trucks, and then eventually a conveyor system will be engineered and installed to take the refuse material away from the preparation plant area.
  • Fine Refuse Slurry Pond Development: A slurry pond will be developed in the area which will be used to contain the fine material from the preparation plant that will not be sold as a saleable product.
At this time, the 4,000 ton per hour batch loadout system to load train cars will load a 130 car unit train in a four-hour time frame. This project is projected to be completed in approximately 36 to 42 months.
